DTx is the coordinator of the initiative “Somos Tod@s Digitais”, promoted by INCoDe.2030, aimed at supporting the Portuguese population with a lack of digital literacy to overcome social isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This project, released on 7th April, provides the free phone line (800 100 555) “Somos Tod@s Digitais”, working daily, between 12:00 and 20:00 (from 12 pm to 8 pm). On the other side of the phone there is a group of volunteers, composed of 30 students and 15 professors from the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave, who will answer questions and provide digital support.
Simultaneously, on the website www.somostodosdigitais.pt, short tutorials about the use of apps like Skype, WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger or Instagram are also available. In addition to this, an advertising campaign for TV, Radio and Digital platforms with the collaboration of influencers is under development.
The purpose is to raise awareness of an essential cause in a time of uncertainty and major difficulties.
In an Interview to SAPO TEK, António M. Cunha, President of DTx, explains that “the initiative is simple, with simple and simplistic purposes, but important for those who encounter significant barriers, whether during leisure times – how to connect to a social network or send pictures – or during work, on the website of public bodies or treasury”. The president also stated that these are “simple and basic matters for those who have digital literacy, but they can be a significant obstacle for those who have a lack of skills in this area”.
This project carried out by INCoDe.2030 has the support of the telecom operator NOS for the implementation of the phone line supervised by DTx and by the National Scientific Computing Unit of the Foundation for Science and Technology.
